Health and Wellbeing talk – Art for Health & Wellbeing
Join me at the Buxton Fringe Festival 2026
Tuesday 21st July @ The Pump Rooms- 6.30PM -7.30PM
I’ve been reflecting lots lately on the power of art to support health and wellbeing. I will be sharing my experiences of its transformational effects with children and adults from the last 20 years of my work as a Creative Mentor and Art Psychotherapist at this public event in July.
As you know, I connect art, nature and the seasons in ways that promote health and wellbeing. I recognise that our increasingly disconnected and fast-paced lives may have a detrimental effect on our mental health, both young and old. Engaging in art is a safe, manageable and accessible way to support our own health and wellbeing. My work has spanned 30 years, starting out as a freelance painter for TV and theatre and as an artist in my own right, selling work to restaurants and private buyers. Watching my young family grow, I became fascinated by my young children’s innate creativity and began to study why creativity diminishes as the child moves up through the education system. I retrained as an Art Psychotherapist, completing a BA and an MA in Sheffield, and since then have worked as a creative mentor and art therapist supporting children and adults’ wellbeing and mental health through engaging in, and with art. In particular, working alongside care-experienced children and young people across Derbyshire and Cheshire.
I am so excited to announce that I will be part of Buxton Fringe’s arts Festival at Buxton’s historic Pump Rooms. My talk will describe how art transforms lives, revealing powerful research, moving stories, and real case studies showing how creativity and engagement in art boosts health and wellbeing associated with neurological issues, dementia, trauma and a range of mental health challenges that many of us may face in our lives. Come and be inspired, gain practical tools for change, and witness the impact of art on individuals, families, and communities. This talk is suitable for anyone interested in how we connect with what we see, and how engaging with our senses through art brings about new possibilities, new learning and connections.
