As you know ferns are my thing! there’s something about their sturdy resilience that I admire. Did you know there are up to 12,000 known species of ferns in the world. Check out my painting of Dicksonia Antartica or ‘soft tree fern’ native to Eastern Australia but found in botanic gardens of the UK. Painted in oils from drawings and photographs of new growth at the base of 20ft mature specimen, at The Royal Botanic Gardens at Logan on Stranraer, this stunning fern grows with strong red stalks, developing the most beautiful almost lacey pinnules (subleaflets).
Pop over to my shop to find prints and soft touch velvet cushions that look fabulous with their contrasting shades of green and vivid reds
