Buy prints or commission a painting

My paintings give you an opportunity to bring the outdoors into your home, capturing a favourite season, a bright spring morning, or the late autumn summer sun among faded flowers and ferns. I capture the character of native ferns that edge our upland moors, woodlands and coastal headlands, exploring the strong sculptural qualities of ferns and their graceful companion, the Rosebay willowherb. Take a look at my original paintings to buy and prints you can order for your home to bring the outside in.

Commissions

Why commission a painting?

You might have seen an original painting on my website that has sold and would like to commission a similar one, or like one of my pieces but want to change something in the colour or theme of the work. Commissioning a painting is a personal and exciting process, and it would be a pleasure for me to work with you on this.

You may have a room in mind where a painting could be a focal point, or a colour scheme to work with. Consider celebrating a special occasion by commissioning a painting as a gift that will remain in your family. Clients have had an image or a photograph of a special place that they would like interpreting into an original piece of art. Paintings have been commissioned as gifts for weddings, birthdays and celebrations of all kinds.

'A PERSONAL CONNECTION'

“We absolutely love having Claire’s ‘Summer Rose’ in our home. There’s something so special about living with original art — every time we walk past it, it reminds us of a meaningful place and moment in our lives. Having an artwork that connects personally to us feels so much richer than just filling a wall.”

Take these steps to begin your commission…

Costing

The project will first be costed. Costs can include framing and delivery if needed. Commissioning a painting incurs an additional fee of 30% on top of what would be a stock price cost and is paid as a first instalment to begin the commission. The final amount is paid on completion. Paintings are priced on size and time, which will take into consideration the complexity of the subject.

Planning & Consultation

A visit to the space where the painting will hang can often be useful, it may be that you already have ideas and want the painting to be themed, or include a particular place, landscape or style. I can offer ideas and colour schemes too if you need more guidance. Once we have enough ideas to play with, the creative process will begin.

The Work Begins

2 or 3 paintings with variations of the theme are created, the piece you chose is yours the other two may become stock paintings in my portfolio. Allow up to 3 months from the the contract and commissioning phase to completion.

For interiors commissions such as wall murals, gilding or paint effects an in person visit and consultation to the property is necessary before costs and designs can be considered.

Exhibitions

Showcasing my latest work around the UK

There is a celebration of colour and form throughout my work. I paint mostly in oils and watercolours, although acrylic work, felted artwork and ceramic pieces appear from time to time. New work in 2024 secured a month-long solo exhibition at Scotland’s Royal Botanic Gardens at Logan on Stranraer attracting international interest, and delighted have exhibited once again this summer with Scottish abstract artist Patti Leoni.
